Achievements
•Kevin Butrick, a senior at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, has been named to the fall 2008 semester dean's list. He is a psychology major, and son of John and Frances Butrick of Carrollton.
•Michael Kelsey Smith of Ivor and Courtney Ann Wallace of Spring Grove each made the dean's list for the 2008 fall semester at Lynchburg College.
Events
Elementary School Dismissal. 1 p.m. Feb. 11. Expect your students home 2-1/2 hours earlier than usual.
School Board Meeting. 7 p.m. Feb. 11, Robert C. Claud Board Room, Isle of Wight County Courthouse. Residents who want to address the board can call the clerk's office at 357-0449 no more than three days before the meeting. People may also sign up on a sheet before the start of the meeting at the auditorium entrance. The agenda will be on the Web site, www.iwcs.k12.va.us, at least three days before the meeting.

Makeup Day. Feb. 16. This will be a normal school day for all Isle of Wight County public schools. This was originally scheduled as a day off for staff and students, but the closing on Jan. 20 requires the day be made up in attendance.
School Board Work Session. 2-5 p.m. Feb. 18, Robert C. Claud Board Room, Isle of Wight County Courthouse.
Parent-Teacher Conferences. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 6. Students will not be in school. Teachers will not be available during lunch break from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Report cards will be distributed at this time.
John F. Kennedy Middle School PTA. 7 p.m. Feb. 10. Call 934-6212.
John Yeates Middle School PTA. 7 p.m. Feb. 10. Call 923-4105.
Nansemond Parkway Elementary PTA. 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11. Call 923-4167.
Parent Information Night. 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 9, King's Fork High, Lakeland High and Nansemond River high schools. This will give parents information on the upcoming course registration process that begins this month. All current 9th-, 10th- and 11th-grade students and their parents are invited to attend, along with the parents and students in the upcoming ninth-grade class for 2009-2010. Call the guidance departments at 923-5240, 925-5790 or 923-4101 respectively.
President's Day. Feb. 16. Suffolk Public Schools will be closed.
Florence Bowser Elementary PTA. 7 p.m. Feb. 19. Call 923-4164 for details.
Pruden Center for Industry and Technology Annual Open House. 5-8 p.m. Feb. 19. Parents or guardians of 9th-, 10th- and 11th-grade students attending high school in Isle of Wight County or Suffolk are invited, as well as community members and all others who have an interest in attending Pruden Center. Tour the facilities, ask questions and become familiar with the courses offered. Refreshments will be served. Details: 925-5651 or visit www.pru dencenter.net.
